COOL CLIMATS
COOL CLIMATS

Despite its name this is not a mixed case about fashion bothering Burgundian lieu dits, instead it's an assemblage of mostly cool climate wines from exceptional sites (climats) and some just plain awesome (cool) wines from unique places. As with Casa Balaguer's Salicornio, these don't have to be chilly to be cool. Indeed, the vines for this are basically grown on a beach in Alicante- how cool is that! More conventionally cool is the Mirabai Pinot Noir from Kelley Fox's spelbinding Maresh vineyard in Oregon's Dundee Hills.

COMANDO G NAVATALGORDO, GREDOS, SPAIN, 2024
100% Garnacha
Navatalgordo in the DOP of Cebreros, Valle del Alto Alberche. The climate in this lofty village might be described as continental high mountain. The plots are called El Sotillo, El Barreno & Los Gorgones, the age of the vines 60 years plus, the altitude 1,100 m above sea level and the soils granite. Navatalgordo is the village with the highest vineyards in Gredos, where the main characteristic is mineral quartz-rich soils and very little clay. The Grenache captures the rockiness, the austerity, and the tension of this remarkable landscape.

KELLEY FOX, MIRABAI, DUNDEE HILLS, OREGON, USA, 2023
100% Pinot Noir

Grapes are sourced from ethos-aligned single vineyard sites throughout Oregon, including, the historic Maresh Vineyard (1970-1991 vine ages and the Weber Vineyard (1983) from which this wine is comprised. Light-to-medium, youthful blue-red with brilliant transparency. Begins with a beautiful, fresh strawberry nose with subtle spices and tastes of the same carried by the lightest drape of silk.

CANTIN FILIPPI TURBIANA, CASTELCERINO, VENETO, ITALY, 2023
100% Trebbiano
Cantina Filippi is certified organic, their wines are superb wines with beautiful definition and minerality and a naturalness which is at odds with the convention of the region. This wine is from a young vineyard planted in a clearing in the forest, planted using cuttings of old vine Trebbiano di Soave. The nose reveals hints of fruit with yellow flesh and white flowers, with a beautiful mineral note. In the mouth it is dry, fresh and mineral with an excellent balance and great elegance and persistence.

WEINGUT KNAUSS PINOT NOIR WÜRTTEMBERG, SOUTH GERMANY, 2023

From mostly marl soils, at 400m above sea level in one of the warmest parts of Germany, this is a delicious, gently extracted Pinot. Redolent of spiced cherries and redcurrants.

MARTIN & ANNA ARNDORFER GRUNER STRASSER WEINBERGE, KAMPTAL, AUSTRIA, 2023
100% Grüner Veltliner
From a selection of special vineyards in the Strasser Gaisberg village. Powerful and fresh at the same time, with the wood bringing a soft touch to the high levels of acidity. The wine spends time on its lees, giving a subtle roundness and imparting a richness that balances beautifully with its mineral and green fruit flavours

CASA BALAGUER, SALICORNIO MOSCATEL, ALICANTE, SPAIN, 2023
100% Moscatel
This comes from a vineyard in La Mata Natural Park, that is just 50m from the ocean, bushvines in the sand. As you'd expect, this Moscatel errs on the savoury side and boasts a delicious salty twang alongside its subtle grip and tropical fruit notes.
