We’ve just returned from one of our larger trade tastings this year, Les Vins du Midi, which showcased our impressive range of southern French wines, delving deep into the vineyards of the Languedoc, Roussillon, Rhône, Provence and Corsica. These remarkably versatile wines brought the sunshine and heat of their homeland to East London, combining bright and intense fruit with a structure and power that felt perfectly suited to the arrival of autumn. Forget any preconceived notions of red wines full of jammy fruits and chewy tannins and oily, heavy whites, this mixed case aims to show you a new side to Les Vins du Midi, one of restraint, freshness, mouth-watering acidity and elegant balance...
PIERRE BORIES, LO PETIT FANTET D’HIPPOLYTE BLANC, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE, 2025
35% Roussanne, 30% Marsanne, 25% Grenache Blanc, 10% Grenache Gris
The nose is marked by fruit (apricot, white fruits and citrus), the palate is generous, with a creamy touch and a nice acidity.
MAS DE LIBIAN, CAVE VINUM BLANC, 2025
35% Viognier, 35 % Roussanne, 20% Clairette, 10 % (Chenin, Rolle, Muscat, Chouchillon).
A floral nose (white flowers) and a fresh palate with orchard-fruit and lemon curd flavours. To pair with chevre cheese from the south of France, or classic Mediterranean fish dishes. This is a white wine that can hold its own against a bit of garlic.
CLOS FANTINE, FAUGERES TRADITION, 2021
40% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 30% Syrah
Drinking this Faugères will make you feel close, or even closer, to nature. This is a crawl on the wild side; the fruit is meaty with game-and-gravy flavours and lots of garrigue notes of bay and roasted thyme and there is pronounced bonfire smokiness on the finish.
CLOS DU GRAVILLAS, SOUS LES CAILLOUX DES GRILLONS, 2024
Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Grenache, Terret noir.
A delicious, savoury dark-and-red-fruit-filled blend of Syrah, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir and Terret Noir. This wine always puts a smile on our faces and is friendly as a welcome from Nicole and John in the beautiful hamlet of St-Jean de Minervois.
DOMAINE THIERRY NAVARRE, VDF “LIGNIERES”, 2025
Ribeyrenc blanc, Grenache gris, Clairette du Languedoc.
The Ribeyrenc blanc brings all its freshness, the Clairette adds its fruity character and the Grenache gris gives the wine its richness and strengthens the wine's structure. A thirst-quenching, fresh, ample, complex wine..
LES VINS DE THOMAS, SUR LE FIL, 2025
50% Grenache, 40% Cinsault and 10% Syrah
A light red with soft tannins - a chillable ‘glou glou’ red. Wild strawberry and blueberry aromas follow through to the palate with a hint of garrigue with a long and expressive finish.
